Paulo Portas, was Minister of State and Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Portugal, between 2011 and 2015. He was also Minister of State and National Defence (2002 to 2005). As Minister of Foreign Affairs, his focus was on economic diplomacy, internationalisation of the economy, Portugal's competitiveness, promotion of exports and attraction of foreign investment. He was also the leader of the Portuguese centre-right political party (CDS) for 16 years, 8 of which governing in coalition with the centrist party, PSD. Portas was also a political representative in 7 mandates. In 2016, he decided not to stand for re-election and returned to the private sector. Paulo Portas is currently Vice-Chairman of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Strategic Council of Mota Engil for Latin America, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Champalimaud Foundation and was a member of the Board of Mex Gas International between 2016 and 2019. Founder and partner at Vinciamo, economic advisor, focusing on the American, Asian, European and African markets. With a Law degree from Universidade Católica, he has a solid academic career: Professor of “Geo-Economics and International Relations” at Nova SBE and Professor of “Economic Diplomacy” at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy.
