Vitor Espirito Santo

Vítor Espírito Santo, is the head of the cellular agriculture department at the American company, GOOD Meat, Inc, a branch of Eat Just, Inc, a company operating in the food industry and based in San Francisco (USA). Vítor completed a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) in 2007 and a PhD in Tissue Engineering, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine in 2012 from the University of Minho (3B's Research Group), a degree that was partly concluded at the Kyoto University, in Japan. After completing his PhD, Vítor worked as a researcher at the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (IBET) in Oeiras in the area of ​​advanced cell models of disease, in partnership with pharmaceutical partners such as AbbVie (Chicago, USA). After a brief period at Immunocore (Oxford, United Kingdom) as senior researcher in the pre-clinical department for oncological immunotherapy, Vítor embarked on a career in food biotechnology, applying the concepts of tissue engineering, molecular biology, animal stem cells culture and bioprocessing for the development of cultured meat. The project he coordinates overcame an important hurdle by securing the world's first approval for the sale and consumption of cultured meat by the food safety authorities in Singapore in 2020, and GOOD Meat, Inc is also the first and only company to date to market this type of meat products (chicken meat).
