Ondina Afonso

Ondina Afonso has more than 30 years’ professional experience in the agrifood sector. She is currently Quality and Research Director at MC Sonae. She also heads the Continente Producers’ Club for MC Sonae, the company’s outreach initiative seeking to make Portuguese agrifood producers more competitive, innovative and sustainable. She chairs the EuroCommerce Food Committee. She has worked with the European Commission since 2002 as an independent expert, supporting research and innovation projects, including assessment of proposals and, more recently, helping to define concepts for a sustainable food system in the European Union. She recently joined the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Stakeholder Discussion Group on Emerging Risks.
